If you find yourself in the Fredericksburg area on Fridays this summer, you may notice droves of people heading toward downtown. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll join the pack and follow it out to the Sounds of the Summer concert series. The series takes place in Market Square, located next to town hall on Princess Anne Street in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg. The concerts are every Friday evening beginning in June and lasting until Sept. 1.
Sounds of Summer in Market Square
The concert series is produced and sponsored by The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) in partnership with various local commissions and businesses. FAM’s mission is to preserve and retell the stories of the people and history native to the Fredericksburg area. The museum itself is located inside Market House right beside the square where the Sounds of Summer concerts are held.
What to Do Before the Concert
If you’ve never visited the museum, you should arrive a few hours early on a Friday night before a concert and walk through the various exhibits. The exhibits close at 5 p.m., so arrive an hour or so before to give yourself plenty of time to take in some history.
After your cultured visit to FAM, you’ll have plenty of time to stroll through the shops of downtown Fredericksburg. Take your time and stop to grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants lining the streets in the city center.
What to Expect at the Concert
The real fun starts to crank up when the music begins at 7 p.m. The musical lineup for this year’s series includes local favorites like Don Brown’s Soul Experience and Steve Jarrell and the Sons of the Beach. Remember to bring your lawn chair so you can enjoy the concert in comfort. Concerts last until 9 pm!
