Mixed fruits and vegetables during Farmers Market Week

August 6th through the 12th is National Farmers Market Week. If you’ve never been to your local farmers market, this celebration is the ideal time for your first visit! Head down to the Fredericksburg Farmers Market and pick up some fresh and healthy finds for your cupboard.

Fredericksburg Farmers Market

Shopping at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market is a great way to support the farming community, which plays a huge role in the local economy. You’ll find everything you need to stock your pantry with fruits, vegetables, and other healthy local foods.

The main market is in historic downtown Fredericksburg in Hurkamp Park. The proximity to downtown shops and restaurants makes a stroll through the market fit easily into your day about town. There are also two additional locations for convenience. Visit Mayfield Market at the corner of Tyler and Dixon Streets along Route 2 and Mary Washington Healthcare Market at Mary Washington Healthcare.

The market’s vendors offer a wide array of meats, eggs, bread, vegetables, fruits, wine, locally grown plants, and flowers. SNAP and Medicaid can be used to purchase market tokens on Saturdays. These tokens can be used for purchases at the market any time during operating hours. The market is open starting at 7 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. On-street parking is available throughout the downtown area.

Farmers Market Week Activities

In celebration of local farmers markets, the Fredericksburg market has a full list of activities planned throughout the week. For starters, customers visiting during the week can grab a slice of watermelon on the house. This is the perfect snack to munch on as you walk around and check out the wares offered by 30 different local vendors.

Most vendors will have samples available, as well as various special offers you can take advantage of. You’ll want to take your time with your visit. Prizes are scheduled to be given away every hour on the hour, and you must be present to win.

After you’ve made a few rounds and visiting each vendor, a trip into the market photo booth is a great way to mark the occasion. You’ll also want to cast your vote for your favorite vendor in the “Best of the Market” contest. Hopefully, you’ll leave with your arms full of fresh treasures sourced from local farmers and artisans.

After your trip to the market, you’ll need a bigger car to store all of your fresh finds. Swing by Mazda of Fredericksburg in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to test-drive a Mazda CX-9 and maybe even share some of your farmers market treats.
