Help Support Stafford County Armed Services Memorial

Stafford County Armed Services Memorial

Although the deadline for purchasing a brick was May 1st, you can still join Stafford County for the official opening ceremony on July 15th, 2017. The Stafford County Armed Services Memorial will be held annually and is the city’s way of showing their support for local soldiers. For more than 200 years, residents of this city have honored our nation through service. Now, residents will use this memorial to commemorate and preserve the memory of lost loved ones.

The Stafford County Armed Services Memorial

It wasn’t long ago that this memorial was merely an idea for the city. Officials assumed this project would take years to finish due to the lack of funding. However, the financial goals were met in a mere few months, and the opening ceremony will be held on July 15th at 11 AM. It will be held at Stafford Courthouse, which is located behind the George L. Gordon Jr. Government Center. The public is strongly encouraged to attend.

“The inspiration behind the memorial started with a tragedy: the loss of a young Marine from Stafford.” After the death of Sgt. Donald Lamar, his parents approached the Stafford Board of Supervisors with a petition. On this petition, it would hope to name a road after their lost son. And on that day, the idea and the inspiration for an armed service memorial were born. Now, with the upcoming ceremony, you can purchase an engraved brick to help support the memorial and your loved ones. The Concept

Dating back as early as the Revolutionary War to present, residents of Stafford County have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation. To help remember the sacrifices of these courageous Americans, this city has constructed a memorial to preserve the inspiration and memory they have left behind. “The memorial will be a fitting place for the public to honor the fallen, salute our veterans, and remind our citizens that the preservation of freedom requires service and sacrifice.”

The Concept of the Stafford County Armed Services Memorial is to create the following:

  • “A sense of community
  • A sense of pride
  • A sense of sacrifice
  • A sense of honor and courage
  • A sense of history
  • A sense of simple beauty
  • A sense of awe”
